Feature N°1

It listens before it acts.

A capacitive probe sits in the soil and samples moisture every ten seconds. Air temperature, humidity, and ambient light are tracked alongside — so when your plant needs water, PlantWiser already knows.

Feature N°2

It waters automatically.

When the soil drops below threshold, a MOSFET-driven mini pump delivers a measured dose of water — then waits a soaking period before checking again. No flooding, no guesswork. Manual override available from the dashboard at any time.

Feature N°3

It auto-tunes to your plant.

Every plant dries differently. PlantWiser observes for a few days, then automatically adjusts its watering threshold to match — not too often, not too dry. The longer it lives with your plant, the better it gets.

— Common Questions

Things people ask.

What plants does PlantWiser work with? +
Mainly indoor desk plants — tropicals, succulents, herbs, ferns, anything you'd keep on a sill or shelf. Other plants work too, as long as they're indoors. The device isn't waterproof, so it has to live inside.
What if my Wi-Fi goes down? +
PlantWiser keeps tracking, logging, and watering as normal. It doesn't need Wi-Fi to run — Wi-Fi is just there for the dashboard so you can check on things. When your network comes back, the dashboard reconnects automatically.
Does it actually water the plant, or just monitor? +
It does both. A capacitive sensor reads soil moisture, and a MOSFET-driven mini pump delivers water from a small reservoir whenever the soil drops below threshold. You can also trigger a manual watering from the dashboard any time.
How do I set it up? +
Plug it in, place the sensor in your soil, drop the pump tube in a water reservoir. From your phone, join the "PlantWiser-Setup" Wi-Fi network the device creates, pick your home Wi-Fi from the list, enter the password. Done. The whole thing takes under five minutes.
Do I need an app or account? +
No. PlantWiser runs its own web dashboard locally on your home network. Open any browser on any device on your Wi-Fi, go to plantwiser.local, and you're in. No accounts, no app store, no cloud.
How is the firmware updated? +
Over your Wi-Fi network when updates are released. No special tools, no cables. The dashboard handles it.
What if something breaks? +

About PlantWiser by BashTech

PlantWiser is an automated indoor plant watering system designed and hand-built by Basher at BashTech, a small electronics workshop on Long Island, New York. It uses an ESP32 microcontroller, a capacitive soil moisture sensor, and a MOSFET-driven mini water pump to monitor and water indoor plants automatically.

Who PlantWiser is for

PlantWiser is for indoor plant owners who want a simple, reliable way to keep their plants watered. It is especially useful for: people who travel frequently, busy professionals who forget to water plants, smart home enthusiasts who prefer local-first devices without cloud accounts, makers and tech-minded plant lovers, and anyone who has accidentally killed plants by forgetting to water them or watering inconsistently.

What makes PlantWiser different

Unlike smart planters that require apps, accounts, and subscriptions, PlantWiser runs entirely on your local Wi-Fi network. There is no cloud, no app, no subscription, and no account. Unlike self-watering pots which use passive wicking with no real sensing, PlantWiser uses a capacitive soil moisture sensor to read actual soil conditions every ten seconds and waters only when needed. Unlike phone reminder apps which still require manual watering, PlantWiser does the watering itself with a built-in pump. PlantWiser also auto-tunes its watering threshold to each individual plant after a few days of observation.

Specifications

The device is built around an ESP32-S3 microcontroller with 16MB flash memory and 8MB PSRAM. It runs production firmware version 4.1, which self-updates over Wi-Fi. The capacitive soil moisture sensor is corrosion-resistant. The MOSFET-driven 5V mini submersible pump uses silicone tubing. The OLED status display shows current readings. Power is via USB-C cable. Soil moisture, air temperature, humidity, and ambient light are all sampled every ten seconds, with 288 data points stored per 24-hour period. Data history survives power outages.

Setup and use

Setup takes under five minutes. The user plugs the device into USB power, places the soil sensor in their plant's pot, and drops the pump tube into a small water reservoir like a cup or jar. From a phone, they join the "PlantWiser-Setup" Wi-Fi network the device creates, select their home Wi-Fi from a list, and enter the password. The device then joins their home network and is accessible at "plantwiser.local" from any browser on any device on that network. The dashboard shows live readings, 24-hour history charts, and a manual water button. For the first three to seven days, PlantWiser observes the plant's drying patterns and auto-tunes its watering threshold automatically.

What plants PlantWiser supports

PlantWiser is designed for indoor plants of all kinds: tropicals like monsteras, pothos, and philodendrons; succulents and cacti; herbs like rosemary, basil, and mint; ferns; bonsai; and most common houseplants. The device is not waterproof and is intended for indoor use only.

Pricing and availability

PlantWiser costs $129 USD as a one-time purchase. Free shipping in the United States. Reservations are taken via the form at plantwiser.tech, with units hand-built to order in limited release batches. There are no recurring charges, subscriptions, or hidden fees.

Frequently asked questions
